Yes, that's what I with my coffee---to confront the ugliness in the world!

Art Peterson

P.S. I'm just joking, just being silly. Please, no one take offense.

The answer to your question depends upon what you think
photography is and
is for - if its for recording pretty and pleasing scenes and
life events,
then one certainly doesn't want any books by Nachtwey or
Salgado - if, on
the other hand, you view it as a medium that can force
people to confront
the ugliness in the world, the reality of the world, and at
least think
about it, then their books deserve a place on every coffee
table.

Mr. Nachtwey is by most accounts the preeminent
photojournalist of our age.
But do you really want a coffee table book of horrror? I
wouldn't want
		my
nine-year-old to see it, and I think my in-laws would
become ill. By some
thinking, Nachtwey wanted a book that would not be easy to
put away, ie,
forgotten. I'm waiting to find one at a discount, say $75
instead of $125.
