I realize this topic has come and gone, but I just bought a Cosina 15mm and
needed something to protect the finder. I thought Ted's suggestion was
great--to buy some chamois leather and sew a litle bag with a drawstring.
Unfortunately, I can't sew. Fortunately, my 12 year old son can. He is
quite proficient with his hands and has been tying my dry flies for trout
fishing since he was 7.

So I bought some chamios and turned him loose. I now have a dandy finder
bag and three bags for larger lenses! Since he is a budding photographer (I
bought him a used Canon Ftb on E-bay for Christmas) he also made a few for
himself.

Ted, since you provided the spark of creativity here, if you would be so
kind as to e-mail me your mailing address, I will send you a free genuine
handmade chamios finder case. If anyone else in the group is interested, he
might be persuaded to make some more for a very nominal fee (plus Ted's cut,
of course <g>).

My only question to the group is, chamois leather is oil tanned and treated
with cod oil to keep it soft, if I remember correctly. I don't worry about
my lenses since they have caps, but the finder doesn't. Do you think cod
oil and coated optics are a safe mix? Since chamois can be used to polish
lenses I thing it must be safe.
