Walter Kluck is the name of the gentleman you refer to. Walter passed away a
few years ago. He had been the featured speaker at several LHSA meetings
over the years. He was also responsible for the Saar works after the war.
This was the factory Leitz set up in the Saar after WWII to circumvent high
taxes in France for imported photo gear. These cameras are the highly
collectible Monte en Saar cameras. Walter later moved to Midland to run the
factory there. Midland was jokingly referred to as the "Walter Works" as
Walter Kluck ran the company and Dr. Walter Mandler was the chief lens
designer for Leitz in residence in Midland. Dr. Mandler was responsible for
many of the great Leitz lens designs of the sixties and seventies, including
our beloved 50/1 Noctilux.
