Hi Chris:  The 'large size' tripod screw is [or maybe I should say 'was']
used in Europe back in the 20s and 30s as the tripod mounting thread.  It
was close to our 3/8-16 thread.  Availble to convert to our standard 1/4-20
thread were busings that worked very well.  Regards,  BIll Carson
