ANthony, for what it's worth, I started using filters on my Nikon lenses but over the years they've just gotten lost or damaged in the process of switching to other filters in a hurry and just tossing the UV in a pocket or into the bag. In time they just got left off. Personally I think the idea of a protective filter is a sound one but in practice it becomes a hassle -- especially if you use other filters. The only other filters I carry and use are a polarizer, an 81A, an 80A and a CC30M. All except the polarizer are used only for color work. I really envision my Leica primarily being an black and white camera mostly so filters are not a big concern for me. On the other hand, I am pretty rough on equipment and having just spent more money on this Leica 24mm than I have on any other lens I've ever bought with my own money I thought I would protect it -- for a while anyway. And Anthony, these are just my considerations. They aren't meant for you and there really isn't any point in disputing them.
