Hi Jim,

It's my humble feeling, if this Leica conversation vehicle, __read LUG__
were limited to only "absolutely narrow line Leica things" I can't imagine
what they'd talk about 365 days of the year, let alone three days straight!

The unfortunate part would be a tremendous loss of "Leica photography
related information" to a great number of members if it were censored.
Isn't that what a "moderated" thing would be?.

Think about how many wouldn't have learned little things of using various
lenses, if they couldn't talk about the assignments they used them on? Or
the interesting elements relating to the assignment it's self. Using a
Leica isn't just the hardware, it's a life style of shooting, living and
taking pictures.

Isn't the side stuff part of the learning process of using a Leica? Even
though it may not have any numbers attached to what went on during the heat
of the shoot?

People do learn many of the aspects of handling a Leica when the assignment
is explained, if that weren't part of the LUG, I'm afraid it would become
very boring with the same half dozen (?) folks talking to themselves every
day.

The simple thing is we have all gone up and down with many situations of
this nature, they come, stay, leave and human nature dictates we always
fall into the same trap time after time. But what the heck, isn't that part
of life? Imagine how dull it would be if it were all black Leica's? Or the
chrome kind that are shiny and polished!

And sure I've done my share of shooting from the hip on the LUG during the
past 4 years, and yes, I've received my heavy duty incoming because of it!
But all the in between time is a very moving experience of learning,
meeting people verbally and eventually shaking hands with some.
Unfortunately, never enough  shaking hands with the many.

I don't think it would be as interesting as it is, even with the turmoil at
times. I can't imagine what is meant, you can only talk about certain Leica
things. Like what certain things? How broad would you be allowed to make
reference to how the camera were used?

Is the conversation very structured to only setting the camera, holding,
stroking, playing with or dropping it? These may sound like stupid
questions as I've never ventured beyond the LUG and I have no idea where
one finds other places in cyberspace. Not that I have any intention of
moving on. :)

Some day I'm going to shake his hand and tell him to his face how much I
really appreciate what he gives to this incredible bunch of international
folks, without sitting there like some dead brain censor!  Thank you Brian
for constantly having an open mind and letting the LUG drive itself.

Sure we have our crash and burns, but who the hell goes through life
without bumping a fender occasionally?  Now any good Leica stories lately?
