He managed to losen it a bit, but faced with a three-day shoot, he ran out and got the Serenar as a backup, then, screw driver in hand, he attacked the Summilux and discovered as soon as he removed and carefully replaced the rear mount, the lens functioned perfectly....So now Dr. Black Tape uses the Serenar, which is tiny and has absolutely incredible depth of field - at f 16 it's about 18" to infinity - as an everyday "carry" lens when he won't be needing the speed of the Summilux.... And even Dr. Black Tape does not contend that the Serenar is the technical equal of the Summilux, which Dr. Black Tape believes is God's gift to available light shooters. :-) > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us > [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us]On Behalf Of Alastair > Firkin > Sent: Thursday, June 17, 1999 5:44 PM > To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us > Subject: [Leica] The Real World - Not on MTV! > > > XXXXXXXXXXXXXX > Dr. Black Tape wonders, for instance, how much sense it would > make to invest > $10000 in the Leica equivalent of the $500-700 Heliar, when the Heliar > produces acceptable results the few times you "need" it. > > FYI - Dr. Black Tape recently used a Serenar 35 2.8, in addition to his > Summilux 35 ASPH, for a number of shots taken over the course of > a three-day > job. > XXXXXXXXXXXXXX > > Your arguements are financial, and yet you own two lenses for the > same job? > [said with tongue firmly in cheek] > > > Alastair Firkin > http://users.netconnect.com.au/~firkin/AGFhmpg.html
