His prices are reasonable, and, as Buzz says, it's nice to actually be able to handle the merchandise. Further, he provides a 90 day warranty. I bought a beautiful Contax IIIa from him with the 50 1.5 sonnar. It turned out that the shutter speeds were way off. He took it from me with a smile and sent it off to his repair guy who took care of the problem. This past Xmas I bought two used TLRs from him for my photo children - a 3.5 Rollei and a Mamiya 330 and, again, the experience was satisfying in all respects....... - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us]On Behalf Of Jeffrey Hausner Sent: Wednesday, January 27, 1999 12:06 PM To: 'leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us' Subject: RE: [Leica] experience buying from tamarkin or chatterton? I know this thread has been beaten to death before, but I want to put in a plug for your friendly local Leica dealer. Generally, your local dealer will give you exactly the same price as the mail order guys for new equipment with the full USA warranty. Of course, you'll have to pay the sales tax, but you will not pay shipping. To be brief, I find the experience of being able to hold and test the equipment before I buy and to speak with a knowledgeable dealer to be a worthy part of the shopping experience. Of course, for used equipment one must buy what one can find and your local dealer may not have it on hand when you need it. However, I have asked my dealer to keep an eye out for a piece and he has called me when it was in and given me a good price each time. For the record, I shop at New England Photo in Arlington Center, Massachusetts. Talk to Ara. Buzz Hausner.
