I can vouch for Leica Passport protection in cases of damage.  I had a two year old R7 mounted on a tripod that toppled over onto rocks smashing the top
plate and mildly damaging the 35mm-70mm Vario Elmar.  Leica USA fixed both at no cost under Passport program.
