Gary I've experienced two sorts of film-scratching -- one from an obvious source, one not. The obvious source was wind-blown dust. That's a constant problem when you're shooting and re-loading out doors. But I've also found that if I rewind the film slowly I can avoid some of the smaller scratches created by minute particles of various kinds that seem to find their way into the camera body no matter what I do. Chrome emulsions seem particularly scratch-prone.
