I can tell you the 2 touch 80-200/2.8 AF-D Nikkor is about twice as fast
as the one touch it replaced. Haven't seen the silent wave or whatever the
S stands for in the new lens, but I wonder if that one is any faster than
this one. 
The ultrasonic and silent wave are good in journalism, BUT the
ideea most photographers assume is true that if they don't hear the motor,
nobody hears it is BAD. Try to shoot your dog with it and see if ther is
any reaction to that! Having those monsters of 600/4 silent to humans is a
sales pitch. The birds sure hear them! And most wildlife!
