The more I learn, it seems the less I know- there is always something new to learn here! Now, about the 'brownish stain' in old viewfinders- and it is not just the SL! The silvering on the prism was what was seperating from the glass. Sherry did my SL and sent the old prism back- the coating almost came off in my had as I held it. This can happen to the mirrors and mirrored beam splitters in older Leicas- my IIIc has just that problem. I would imagine that the Visoflex has a similar problem with the mirror under the ground glass, since the ground glass is exactly that- glass flashed with an abrasive actually frosting the surface, so there is nothing to seperate. I say this because the first Rollei I had was an ancient Rolleicord with a first surface mirror that had de-silvered or seperated. You literally look through a 'glass darkly'. Check with DAG or Sherry- they may have a replacement. John Van Stelten recoats lenses- and he may resilver mirrors, or know someone who does. I know someone mentioned it in a much earlier post- back in the Summer, and someone suggested looking for someone who resilvers telescope mirrors for astronomers. I have a recipe for silvering mirrors, but it is sort of messy, and uses some pretty nasty chemicals, so letting someone else do it might be prudent! Dan dwpost@msn.com
