Simply invest in any of the standard Leica references and you are good to
go.  Laney's LEICA COLLECTORS GUIDE is probably the best, though its
adapter coverage only manages to include a hundred or so of the most
popular.  I have been developing a list of all possible Visoflex adapters,
and am currently on my fourth page, and no where near ended -- I keep
finding adapters listed in technical or scientific price lists, for
instance, which never made it to the camera catalogues.

I would suspect Leica has made several thousand different adapters over the
years.  The best way to learn about them is to buy some and use them.
