     Actually, according to this, the weight difference will be 9 oz, or 
     around 270 grams.  Almost a 20% increase.  Not so insignificant.

I just got off the telephone with a Mr. Morigani (?) on Nikon USA's 
technical support line (800-NIKON-US) who told me that the 80-200 AF-S 
"weighs 55 oz., is 8 inches long, and takes a 77mm filter".  According to 
the latest product brochure, the current 80-200 weighs 45.9 oz, is 7.4" 
long and also takes a 77mm filter.  So the new lens is longer by about 
1cm and heavier by about 30g...hardly what could be described as "huge" 
in comparison to the current lens...or comparable to the 70-180 Leica 
dimensionally.
