I was a long time believer in filters for the protection of front elements.
 Everytime I bought a lens, I would buy a filter for it.

After hearing all the pros and cons about filters in the LUG, I have
decided to take the plunge and use my lenses without any filter (hence you
will notice that I have lots of filters for sale on Fridays), but with just
the shade only.  It might be psychological, but I have noticed that my pics
have become crispier since "taking 'em off"!

I must add that I still keep one on for those trips which are likely to be
terribly dusty.
