And, yes, I do like the R8 a great deal. When I first held the body, I too thought it was too thick, but after using the camera for a relatively short time, I find I rather like the way it handles. It seems somehow easier to control than the Canon bodies I replaced. I can see how some folks would like the balance better with the winder attached. Hope this helps. Will von Dauster
