The Passport warranty is similar to the "Audi Advantage" program which
comes with all new Audis in the USA. Basically, Audi covers all
maintenance of the car through the 3 year/50,000mile warranty period. It
sounds like a pretty good deal, but you're not really getting a free
ride--you're just paying for the maintenance in advance.

But, since you don't really have a choice when it comes to either the
Audi plan or the Leica warranty, you might as well settle for the
benefits of each program. For example, Leica USA does seem to stand
behind their warranty, and if the camera is a complete loss due to
damage, it is surely easier just to get a new camera within the 3 year
period than it would be to wrangle with the insurance company over the
deductible and replacement value. At least in the US, the insurance
companies seem to be more interested in keeping your money than they do
about actually making good on their policies.
