Subject: [Leica] Slide projector & lenses test: part II

Hello fellow LUGgers:

I had promised this a while back, but finally found some time during the
holiday season to make hard on my promise. Back in November, the French
magazine Chasseur d'Images produced a test of commonly available slide
projectors (Kindermann, Kodak, Leica, Rollei). They had tested these
projectors in their standard shipping version (that is: with included
lenses). The following Leica projectors were tested: P150, P300, P600IR
and P2002.

In their December edition, Chasseur d'Images tested projector lenses, and
put up some more slide projectors (Braun Novamat 515AF, Braun Paximat
Multimag 250 S-AF, Braun Paximat Multimag 250 CI-AF). The following
lenses were tested (stars are between brackets, the more the better):

BRAUN
Color Paxon 85mm f/2.8 MC (2)
Super Paxon 85mm f/2.8 MC (2)
Ultralit PL 90mm f/2.4 MC (4 )
Ultralit PL 70-120mm f/3.5 MC (3)

KINDERMANN
Color 90mm f/2.8 (1)
90mm f/2.4 MC (4)
Wetzlar Vario 70-120mm f/3.5 MC (4)
Docter Vario 85-150mm f/3.5 MC (4)

KODAK
Ektapro FF 85mm f/2.8 (1)
Ektapro Select FF 93mm f/2.5 (3)
Ektapro FF 75-120mm f/3.5 (5)
Ektapro Select FF 75)120 f/2.8 (4)

LEICA
Hektor P2 85mm f/2.8 (3)
Colorplan 90mm f/2.5 (5)
Super Colorplan 90mm f/2.5 MC (5)

SCHNEIDER (for Kindermann)
AV-Xenotar 90mm f/2.4 HFT (5)

ROLLEI
AV-Apogon 90mm f/2.4 HFT (5)
S-Heidosmat 150mm f/3.5 MC (3)
AV-Apogon 120mm f/2.8 HFT (5)
Schneider AV-Xenotar 90mm f/3.5 HFT (4)

The Leica Colorplan 90mm f/2.5 in version P or P2 gets a flattering
remark: the price/performance ratio is unsurpassed. This lens imposes
itself as the technical & commercial standards against which all other
lenses must be measured.
The Super Colorplan gives a slightly cooler impression and is a bit more
"crusty". Very expensive, but the absolute top. If more than 5 stars
could be given, this lens would get 6 stars.

Chasseur d'Images also advises the following combinations of slide
projectors and lenses (stars between brackets are for built quality and
projection quality)

Braun Paximat Multimag 250 S-AF with Braun Ultralit PL 90mm f/2.4 MC (4 /
4)
Leica Pradovit P150 with Leica Colorplan P2 90mm f/2.5 (4 / 4)
Leica Pradovit P600IR with Leica Super Colorplan P2 90mm f/2.5 (5 / 5)
Kindermann Silent 2500 with Rollei Schneider AV-Xenotar 90mm f/2.4 HFT (3
/ 4)
Rollei Twin MSC 300 P with Rollei Kit 2 x Apogon 90mm f/2.4 (5 / 5)

For what it is worth...

Best season's greetings,

Pascal
