Re Bill Caldwell's message (below):
I apologize for taking so long to answer---and in any case, I don't
know whether this will be of any help to you---but my old M5 catalog
(not 50th Anniversary, and not 3 lugs but 2) lists the part number for
a replacement carrying strap with non-slip pad as 14190, not the 14196
you mentioned, and it does not specify leather (and I cannot tell from
the photograph whether that 14190 strap is leather or something else).
As to your real question of what's available, I cannot help except to
say that I am aware that straps can sometimes be found through various
dealers in used Leica equipment (such as the ones that advertise in
"Shutterbug" magazine). Check out their web sites, or call them.
Hope that helps,
Art Peterson

LUGers:
This question may have been the subject of a far earlier thread, for
which I apologize -- I am fairly new to LUG. I am looking for the
carrying (leather) strap and non-slip pad for the M5, 3 lug. The Leica
Product Directory, 50th Jahre Edition, Dealer Catalog, shows the product
number as 14196. Is there a source for either the original or for a
replacement leather strap. I spoke to George Elanjian, Jr., at
Kameraleder Los Angeles, about the possibility of making the strap. He
questioned, with all the straps on the market, why I would need a custom
strap. His response brings me back to the basic question (which is in
the alternative) is the original strap available, or is there a good
replacement on the open market. Thanks in advance for your considered
response(s). A dedicated M5 user -- Bill Caldwell
