Leica has designed its lenses to include some residual spherical aberration
to produce the famed "Leica Glow" by rendering out-of-focus images a tad
soft. Thus, it may not be a fair criterion of a Leica lens to judge it by
its sharpness alone.

Having said that, this user, at any rate, has owned and used every version
of the 2/50 and has found the NF (dual-range) to be the most satisfactory,
followed closely by the 2/50 rigid chrome Summicron (first generation). I
do love the 1.4/50 as well, and use it almost as much as I do my NF lens --
it is a superb optic wide open and only gets better as it is stopped down.

Best,

Marc
