(And if so, should I sell a German RE or an early (I > think) Portugese R5?). No, you shouldn't. Leicas are very well dampened. But if you are critical, then the R7 would be a better choice than the R6. It also has mirror lockup, and the mirror action of the R7 (when you don't lock it up) is the best ever in a Leica SLR. I noticed an increase in sharpness in hand-held slow shutter speeds, so it much really do a job when on a tripod/copy stand and locked up. Several R7 friends of mine noticed the same improvement in sharpness due to lack of mirror slap. If you do a lot of copy work you should look for a Leica Reprovit. Boy howdy, I used one when I was the copy person at the Journalism School in Columbia, MO., and I can tell you that is one slick instrument, that no other copy setup could come close to copeting with. I've seen them for less than $2,000 and they are worth every penny. If I did a lot of work like that I'd scour the earth to find one. Regards, Eric Welch Grants Pass, OR
