Except if you take into account that tourism would certainlynot  be so 
appealing without them. Think of the maintenance cost of the slopes for the 
winter, and of the trails for the rest of the year for instance.
And it is also some investment for future generations. Better than what 
Spain, or France, did when the destroyed the landscapes of their coast for 
the sake of skin cancers.

I must admit that the price to pay shows in the butchers, dressed like, and 
charging as much as, jewelers ;-)
