Mary Lou McDonald was waiting to explain her party's performance at an interview with RTE, the Irish national TV broadcaster. I was positioned just beside the TV camera. She took over earlier this year from Gerry Adams as President of the Sinn F?in party which is trying to shake off its old paramilitary IRA associations by emphasizing its left wing and youth credentials. Unfortunately, its choice as Presidential candidate Liadh Ni Riada made some errors, as well as going up against Michael D. Higgins - the popular poet and current President who was seeking re-election. As a result, Ni Riada garnered only a miserable fourth place with 6.8% of the vote while the re-elected President Higgins got 55.8% and romped home. We have him for another seven years for better or verse... Anyway, Mary Lou knew she was going to get roasted in the interview and her face reflects this anticipation. http://www.gallery.leica-users.org/v/DouglasBray/Dublin/Mary+Lou+McD.jpg.html Douglas
