Because in America, bigger is better....... In emerging market countries, it is better still! Hath thou not heard the expression,,,,,, Bigger is better???????? Super Size me!!! ( Admittedly a Male thing, except for some parts of Female anatomy. Don't want to be considered a Male Chauvinist Pig. I am an equal opportunity slanderer.). Back to marketing basics...... A BIG CAMERA is worth more...... and people will pay for it.... think of the bragging rights for the Actors, Russian Industrialists, and other rich folk ( who are the target of this camera)... I OWN THE WORLDS"S BIGGEST LEICA!!! And it has THE WORLDS' BIGGEST KIT LENS ON IT TOO!!! HOW CAN YOU MISS MY NEW CAMERA? I AM SOMEONE WHO IS BOTH RICH AND IMPORTANT!!! ( sorry, no Cyrillic keyboard here) (I note, obviously someone out there will actually USE the camera, but for the purposes of this rant, I will totally ignore that market segment,) Proposed Marketing Slogan....... Leica, are you listening? Be the darling of your circle of billionaires... Get an SL, today! ( 30 pt typeface, Italics, maybe colored ink) Leica, still listening?.... You NEED a gold model, Not plated, real solid, 18K gold. Billionaires don't want no common camera, they want a special edition.... I really wish I could get paid for this marketing brilliance.... Does anyone know the CEO of Leica Germany well enough to get me a job in their Branding Department? Personally, I think the price point and functionality of this camera compared to the S2 family, is pretty competitive. I am not sure I would want one over the S2.... but that EVF, oh my!!! Seriously, I like the camera, but it is outside my financial reach..... maybe in 5 years, when the used market has them in droves, and everyone wants the next new thing.......... Frank Filippone, buying yesterdays' technology at last week's prices..... Like a Monochrom...... Red735i at verizon.net But it is a mirrorless, for gosh sake. It should be much smaller, like the Q. Image stabilization in the body would also probably have helped with the size of the lenses, too. Aram Indeed, it seems very large, but surely they should have sized it against the Nikon D4S or the Canon 1D C or wherever as it's supposed to have press aspirations. It appears to be significantly lighter than the D4S. Douglas
