Here's my simple solution, though not for purists: Get a dollar store bottle of nail polish. Take the black spool, and insert a thick white piece of paper, such as a business card, as though you were loading film. Then paint over the top of the spool lip with the nail polish. Allow to dry, remove the paper and voila--instant contrast for low-light loading.
