When I travel, in those parts that are less economically capable, I take
along a box of pencils or crayons to hand out.   It makes the kids and their
parent smile, and the cost in weight for the journey is negligible.

Giving cash to kids may be the equivalent of giving money for drugs or booze
( Parents?).  Giving pencils really does help them in a positive way.

  Then before we left, the teacher asked for a donation for school supplies.
They especially need pencils and pens.  If I went back again, I would take
as many as I could.
