I think for the larger amount of body of work you are dealing with its
larger than what Lightroom is normally geared to but I bet it could do it if
you had a big Mac-Pro instead of a laptop or  other kind of smaller one.

Me I prefer to not have my body of work tied up with Lightroom for these
kinds of reasons. I'm working off a laptop. And am doing ok with Adobe
Bridge.
