Does it focus to infinity in between fixed focal lengths? The MATE will not 
focus over a couple of metres when between FLs...

As it happens, it is a zoom lens and is perfectly useable with in between 
focal lengths, it just has no viewfinder appropriate, though the new camera 
has a live view function which resolves that.
