Chris,

While some of your points do have veracity;
you're making this about Tina;
and about photojournalism;
and equating the two with the cost of gear
and affordability;
making it all quite convoluted.

Your perception and interpretation of "reality"
does not necessarily ring true with other's
perception and interpretation.

We have known a few "young" photographers on this list
who've managed to by Leica's and other "expensive" gear
and find success in chosen fields.

I know a couple "young" shooters who've managed
buy medium format gear and conduct their business successfully.

I'm not privy to the details of the history of Tina's career.
When I came to this list I was under the impression
that she worked for one or more non-profit agencies;
and that she build her photographic catalog with that work.
I was also under the impression that she also financed her own
travel photography expeditions to supplement her catalogs.
I have no idea if I'm correct in these assumptions.

To my knowledge she was not employed by news publications;
though she may or may not have sold photographs
to news papers and/or magazines.

In any event tossing out what news photographers in Indiana get paid;
or where you think any individual would "need" to go for funds to buy gear;
whether a parent, bank loan, inheritance, work in coal mine, sibling,
selling drugs,
loan from a wife, or husband, or any other income or gift source under the
sun
has little to do with Tina; or how she feels about the gear she chooses to
use.
