Yes, it is most likely you are RAM limited.  You should first put in more
RAM.  Fill it up.  The cost should be pretty small ( less than a 30mm lens
for your ALPA!!, but so are most compact cars!)

To be honest, the SSD helps if you are going to use a HUGE program that is
constantly going out to the disk for more/different program code.
Think in terms of a Kids Game where the playing ground is absolutely huge,
lots of scenarios, only 1 of which is loaded at one time. The CPU is
constantly swapping in 1 scenario for another.  A tremendous amount of disk
access.  In these circumstances, the SSD makes a lot more sense than more
Ram.

I do plan to boost my RAM: 8 - 32. A 250GB SSD drive that plugs into a PCI
slot (much faster than SATA) is what I'm considering for a scratch disk.
