Depending on the TV and the precise picture mode, some TV will stretch 4:3 images width wise to fit in a 16:9 aspect ratio. This is not something I believe you can control within Aperture/iPhoto or Lightroom. It may even be something they themselves has no idea as many people just leave it on factory setting. My suggestion for the case you have no idea which TV they have is to use 16:9 aspect ration and 1080p (1920x1080 or so) resolution. That way, if they have a 4:3 screen, they will probably just see black bars on top and bottom. If they have a 16:9 TV, the images should be fit perfectly. Infinitely preferred to fat-looking wedding photos. Best solution I would suggest is to ask them what kind of TV they have or are planning to buy. All the common larger flatscreen TVs now days are either 720p or, more commonly, 1080p. Very few large sets are 4:3 any more in the stores in Canada.
