I have never been on Safari, nor probably ever will go.. Unless you
consider the Safari Park in San Diego.

But the thought that I had on this long lens argument..and the Nikon D800 ..

If you want a nice long fast lens, and you want to keep weight ( or cash)
down, then the D800 is like a free TeleConverter with no optical aberrations
and no loss of F-Stops.

It is called Cropping. With so many pixels, and no place to put them all
on a print, cropping is a logical solution.

This is a wonderful place to use the D800 pixels.. And save a ton of $$$

Personally I think the D800 is well suited to the application..
