Subject: [Leica] Apartment on Ludlow St

When we first moved here from HK, we had an apartment at 109 Ludlow St and
we had the place all to ourselves, with toiler and tub / shower! The
building was about 100 years even at that time (1975). Old and broken down,
the fridge ran on gas, if you can believe that, and electricity is the
European standard of 220 volts. Nevertheless, it was a great luxury
compared to what we had in Hong Kong.

We were even more fortunate to move into the apartment on Columbus street,
I think around 1978. The electricity is standard, we have air conditioning,
and the area wasn't as scary as Ludlow.

Somewhat to my surprise, I found that during boom time back in the 90s,
they renovated the Ludlow st area. I thought they would tear it down for
sure. But I guess with the new anti-crime initiatives, NYC just isn't as
scary a place as in the 70s and 80s.

In any case, just found this photo essay. This apartment is on Ludlow, but
the article does not give an address. However, looking at the tub and the
doors, I wouldn't be surprise if this is in the same building. Looks like
things have not changed too tooo much in 2003 from 1975 in that sense.

Enjoy!
