How often really depends on conditions.
Dry air = more often
Dusty, dirty conditions = more often
Many lens changes = more often

Safe = careful blowing with your Rocket
followed by
the wet swab methods recommended
(as needed)

The first few times feel "dangerous."
After a while it's just maintenance.
I do it as seldom as possible;
though always before a shoot
wherein I know dirt could be a problem:
skys
seamless background studio work
etc.
