Subject: [Leica] Why they are called the Smokies?

On the far right, in the far distance, are the rising hills of southern
North Carolina:

It is because of the nearly perpetual haze in the air in the summer months.
The haze is caused by air borne tree pollen which deteriorates in the bright
sunlight to form "natural" smog. Of course the smoke from moonshine stills
adds to the ambience.
