I just thought I'd share some of the interesting pictures that are in my father's collection as the events recede in time. I'll have to scan more as I get the chance. My dad documented his time in the service in pictures, starting with shots of basic training in 1941, then overseas duty in new Guinea and Australia. I have a report on the daily operation of the 8th Photo Squadron's lab that boggles me. It details the volume of large format film and prints turned out under harsh tropical conditions in tent darkrooms, etc. Back in civilian life after the war he was photographer for his fraternity while studying under the G.I. Bill at the Chicago College of Optometry, picturing of student life there. (So in a way he was a university photographer too.)
