The majority of my photo work gets done on my 17" MacBook Pro which is quite
well balanced with my 23" cinema displays. Only the most critical,
commercial print work goes to the larger displays. When checking editing
from the book on the larger display - rarely are any file changes indicated.
I think it comes down to keeping all displays as close as possible in their
settings and appearance; along with knowing what the actual numbers mean for
intended purposes; whether cmyk print, inkjet or web.
