Here is a very interesting clip comparing motion picture imaging on film vs 
digital.

About two-thirds of the way through, the speaker mentions that gamma rays 
can kill sensor pixel sites when digital cameras are on airplanes.

He also talks about the problems of wide angles with digital imaging.
