Curiosity? Are you working off a tripod or hand holding? Back ground would kind of indicate a tripod? I've just read another post asking what exposure did you use? And you offered 1/2 second, so that kind of answers my question. During the closing ceremonies at Olympic Games it's usually in the evening with a mind blowing visual show of fire works. However "tripods are not allowed!" That means covering the events regardless of size of lens, but one can work with a monopod. But most photogs at the closing ceremonies are so glad it's over they tend to hand hold and shoot the brilliant fireworks, massive explosions the night sky on some becomes much like daylight, including enough to light the crowds and stands. I've shot many of them even using pushed Kodachrome to ASA 500.... Yep it was possible after the Calgary winter games when KODAK introduced some of us to test shooting at the pushed rate and it was quite remarkable results. We shot all the indoor events in this fashion. Surpised a number of photographers when we'd load Kodachrome for the Ice Skating indoor events while in a photo position. Comments were: "Hey that's Kodachrome you can't shoot that in here!" We just smiled and the next day or so prints were posted on the wall of the KODAK Press Centre. :-) However, when the games were over and we had proven it was quite possible with great results a small glitch ws introduced by KODAK. :-) With this pushing knowledge, later I shot it during the real world of day to day assignments at ASA 500 and asked KODAK for pushed processing. READY? KODAK were quite willing to do so for $50.00 per roll! That ended that wonderful bit of pushed processing as a client paying regular film costs plus the extra $50. per roll opted out of that deal right quick! Kodachrome or no Kodachrome! In any event hand holding and I'll add at higher ASA ratings than yours, it is possible if the explosions are big and brilliant, one can have some mobility of shooting directions by hand holding. Besides I hate tripods as they destroy your mobility when shooting sports! It's no different than the equipment one uses.... the assignment dictates what gear and how many cameras, whatever? So did you tripod or no? cheers, ted.
