That's pretty straightforward....

Part of the image-plan by marketing....  ( Which I am sure N and C also
do...).....

" Magnum Photos has announced a "technological and photographic
collaboration" with Leica that will see the camera manufacturer "sponsor the
creation of a series of independently produced multimedia essays" by
Magnum's photographers"


The fine print says that when Leica gives the Magnum photographer money for
a project it will offer to supply them free with an M9 and glass but they
are also free to use their  own DSLR.

In the British Journal of Photography where I read it first as an email
which I clicked on and it brought me to their website then on the magazine
rack their hard copy edition which I saw for the first time this month.
