I spent a couple of weeks in Savannah several years ago, and it has morphed 
into a really vital arts center.  SCAD, you may know, has spread all over 
the downtown area and they have a marvelous photography school.  When we 
were there, we kept running into the students with view cameras set up on 
the sidewalks.  Great place, with a great photo supply store, if you've got 
the time.
