A heavy rain washed a crude wooden Hermes icon into the ocean, which was
later caught in a fishing net. The fishermen repeatedly tried to cast
it away, but kept catching it, so they brought it ashore. At night they
needed wood to sustain their fire and tossed the icon in. It wouldn't
burn and at that point, the fishermen knew the piece of wood was related
to a god, and set up an altar. Hermes became the patron deity of Ainos.
Pan was his goat-footed son, hence the tradition of also placing goats
on Ainos coinage.

The denomination is a tetradrachm, about four day's pay for a soldier.

C&C welcome

Best,

John
