Hi Nathan,
Since the days of digital and having shot some new images in Operating
rooms. I wondered if my medical books all shot on Tri-x at ASA 800 and
developed and printed myself. Would the same images shot in digital have
been as strong in reproduction, lighting and any other film technical things
one can think off? Your reaction good Sir?

Despite some of my digital B&W photos look not bad at all, in some
situations they just don't have what I'll call the "Magic look of film?" Not
always! In these cases I have put it down to my lack of digital technical
experience of the system. Rather than saying out and out... "digital can't
produce what film does in B&W." In my case, any discrepancies in quality
look between film and digital surely fall squarely on my untrained
shoulders. Maybe?

I have a Digilux 2 that I can lock into a "SHOOT B&W IMAGES MODE!" When you
look through the view finder it's a B&W world and click! It can easily
influence how and what you see as a B&W world. You have recorded a B&W image
as seen. To my early surprise the image quality has been not bad at all. The
weird thing is, looking through the viewfinder at a B&W world, then take the
camera away from your eye and see the same scene in natural living colour.
:-)

Certainly a very quick way of comparing... "Is it better in B&W or colour?"
:-) CLICK! :-)

I'm not attempting to start a full blown "US or THEM!" As in "FILM vs
DIGITAL" battle, more of a sample of peoples experience. I realize a tough
call as we see a print differently, not always. However?

And please folks let's not go all wild and weird with technicalities that
many wont understand. Certainly me! :-( Just remember "KISS" when giving a
"why this or why that" good bad or ugly reason one is different.... I'm not
saying better!

cheers,
Dr. ted :-)
