Subject: [Leica] IMG: Contrasts - Binz and Prora on the Baltic island of Ruegen

Hello all,

Some shots from our recent trip to Stralsund and across
the bridge to the island of Ruegen.

Binz is a holiday resort from the times of the German
Kaisers - and has not changed much since.

Prora is a development from an even darker era of
German history - and has not changed at all.

Built by the KdF movement as a happy holiday home for
tens of thousands of Nazis, it was never actually
completed and used for its intended purpose.

Its varied post-war history includes use as barracks
for the GDR Volksarmee (the perpetuation of German
dictatorship under a different political colour),
accommodation for Russian occupation forces and, after
reunification, numerous projects that were all doomed
to failure - probably due to the atmosphere of the
place: cold, uninviting, overpowering and desolate.
