Compared to when and/or where?
In my heart of hearts I doubt if this particular
upper middle class, residential neighborhood
could be called "dangerous" by any world standards.
Yet everyone seems in a "better safe than sorry" mode.
When I think of the world I grew up in,
it was a far more dangerous place.
Cars with 250 HP, heavy steel bumpers, bad brakes and no seat belts.
Biked everywhere without helmets.
Atomic bomb drills every couple weeks.
Assassinated president.
Civil rights riots.
Boating without life jackets.
Swimming without life guards.
Monkey bars and swings on concrete play grounds.
The list could go on.
