I LOVE to use balanced fill-flash for pictures of people seated by windows
when the outside daytime view is also in the frame, as a way of showing them
in their home (for example) and where it is that they live (the view
outside). 

There's no way to cover such a range of brightness without resorting to
flash.

I also use balanced fill-flash for some fully outdoors portraits.
