With reference to the Dali Lama photo op, the Chuang Yen Monastery houses the largest statue of Buddha in Europe, North and South America. It is located in Kent, NY, about an hour's drive north of New York City. The monastery was dedicated by the Dali Lama a few years ago. The walkway to the main building is guarded by an impressive array of statues of Buddhist saints and a few granite lions. The statue of the Buddha is about as tall as a four story building. The grounds are beautiful, especially during the spring and summer. If you take a Fall Color trip to upstate NY it is well worth a detour. The colors are just starting to change and should be at their peak in a couple of weeks. The series starts here: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Larry+Z/1_+Monastery.jpg.html Larry Z
