Just had a chance to look through the electronic version of the  
current Viewfinder.
All I can say, is that digital probably came in the nick of time to  
save Leica's rear end.
The quality of imagery has gone up dramatically since the  
introduction of the M8.
The M9 will probably re-solidify Leica's stature.
One thing that struck me, after thinking about the image quality, is  
that most folks have very minimal skills with film. As more and more  
of the older adapt practitioners left the scene, what was left  
standing was/is of a very low standard of competency.
The era of film was slowly dissipating to begin with. The 70's and  
80's being the low point years of photography, as the 35mm SLR  
dominated the scene. In spite of the 35mm technological advances,  
many of which precipitated the digital evolution.
But with the dust settling, and seeing Leica still holding its own,  
it is somewhat heart warming.
