Kodak used to have a big fab in Connecticut.... But surely, Dennis is right 
in thinking a contract fab is pretty easy to get....

there is little proof or even evidence that Leica developed any in house 
ability to wrtie code for the M8, M9, or S2
In their defense, this is pretty esoteric code that is best left to those 
with experience.  Best to contract out what you can find and concentrate on 
your own competencies.  Glass design and mechanical precision.
