I believe that it comes down to money.

We have a huge variety of sensor sizes to choose from;
including both CCD and Cmos;
SLR, P&S, Electronic and Range Finders
including adapters
to put almost any lens
on almost any body (with a removable lens).

Plenty of so-called "full frame"
and so-called "medium format"
choices as well.

We can mount cameras and/or backs
on view cameras;
use fast or slow scanning backs.

It feels like the digital photographic gear
has matured.

The only question remaining:
How much do you want
(or are able)
to spend?

Wait for what?
